Led by renowned vocalist Michelle Berting Brett and accompanied by an amazing 7 piece band, We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered is the closing show of the LCCCA 2017-18 concert season. Celebrating the timeless music of one of the most successful recording acts of all time, Michelle will bring her critically acclaimed show to Lebanon, PA for what promises to be an afternoon of music, magic and memories.
Richard and Karen Carpenter’s music transcended musical genres, earning the duo worldwide acclaim in addition to a multitude of radio-friendly singles and millions in album sales. The Carpenter’s worldwide hits include: “(They Long To Be) Close To You,” “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “For All We Know,” “Rainy Days And Mondays,” “Superstar,” “Yesterday Once More,” “Hurting Each Other” and “Top Of The World”.
Their 1970, Grammy-award winning sophomore album, ‘Close To You’ ranks as one of Rolling Stone magazine's Greatest Albums of All Time, while their 1971 self-titled release earned the pair another Grammy in addition to reaching #2 on the Billboard album charts.
Although The Carpenters ended with the untimely death of Karen in 1983, the duo’s contribution to popular music continues to resonate to this day. Fans of Richard and Karen will certainly want to re-live the magic in Brett’s unique celebration of their music.
When Michelle was asked, “What makes the music of The Carpenters so timeless and special?” She responded, “When The Carpenters first hit the scene, no one sounded like them. Richard was an absolute genius as an arranger and composer and their songs had a symphonic and orchestral feeling with these amazing stacked vocals. Then you couple that with Karen’s incredible vocal performance. No one could imbue a song with emotion the way Karen could. Even on those early recordings, here was a girl in her early twenties with such maturity and wisdom.”
When asked about the upcoming concert, Michelle’s response was… “We’ll do The Carpenters biggest hits, so of course you’ll hear all of the favorites. But people tend to think of The Carpenters as a group that did a lot of ballads, but they also did a lot of great up-tempo songs too. So we’ll include some of those songs as well as some fun medleys. We also tell stories of Karen and Richard’s life and career. My husband, Mark, had a very long, behind the scenes career and has worked with many of the people Karen and Richard knew and worked with in the Seventies. But what we do most of all is try to recreate the recordings as authentically as possible with an amazing band of musicians. What I want is for people in the audience to be transported back to when they first heard those songs and the emotional state they were in at the time.”
